Charting a New Course: Rick's Journey of Hope and Transformation
Rick went to the Turning Point Center in Barre on a whim. He felt they accepted him and allowed him to choose his own path.
Rick had recently stopped drinking. At 65, he had been “an alcoholic for 50 of those years.” He moved around a lot, to eight states and numerous cities. He never stayed long enough at a job for retirement. Now, he was working with a psychologist and looking at building his future.
The Turning Point Center was where Rick met Lorcan, a Senior Account Manager for Working Fields. Rick found him “easy to talk to” and felt he understood what Rick was going through.
Working Fields offered Rick a supportive environment where he could take his life in a new direction. He continued to meet with Lorcan after their first encounter at the Turning Point and decided that Working Fields’ open position at Central Valley Medical Center (CVMC) would be a good place to start.

__________Out of Prison & Out of Work
At Working Fields, we know firsthand the immense value of fair chance hiring. With 40% of our associates, as well as our founder, having a felony on their record, providing second chances is at the core of our agency.
Research shows that formerly incarcerated individuals face unemployment rates nearly five times higher than the general U.S. population—numbers worse than the Great Depression. Yet, studies also show that individuals with past justice system involvement often excel in the workplace. Fair chance hiring isn't just about opportunity—it's about tapping into real talent.
Learn about the employment barriers faced by formerly incarcerated people in the Prison Policy Initiative's article,
Out of Prison & Out of Work: Unemployment among formerly incarcerated people.
